Crayon Halloween Costume
Phoenix and Gryphon are the green and blue crayons in a giant box of Canineyola Crayons, ready to fill your Halloween with color.
Materials:
- Crayon costumes for humans
- Needle and thread
- Various colors of paint
- Blue and green fabric
- Posterboard
- Elastic cord
- Foamboard
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Colored paper
- Permanent markers
- Fabri-tac glue
Step 1: Crayon Costumes
To turn Phoenix and Gryphon into blue and green crayons, we started with costumes intended for humans. We adjusted them to fit the dogs by rolling them up, and tying them in place, so that they didn’t drag down. We wanted the outfits to say Canineoyla, to go with the dog theme. To do this, we started by painting black elongated ovals on their outfits. Then we added the Canineoyla lettering by cutting the letters out of matching blue and green fabric and gluing it onto the ovals. We drew the black squiggly design of the crayons directly onto the outfits and then painted them black. We lined the fabric of the hats with posterboard, to make them stand straight up, and added elastic bands to hold them on the dogs’ heads.
Step 2: Crayon Box
We wanted to make a giant crayon box, which would fit both the dogs. We made the entire thing out of many sheets of foamboard. We started by painting all of them yellow. We then glued the pieces together into a box shape using a glue gun, and cut a U shaped dip out of the front, like we’ve seen on real crayon boxes. We then drew the rest of the design onto the box, including the logo and the green stripes. We painted this design onto the box.
Step 3: Extra Crayons
We wanted to create some extra crayons, to make the box look filled with crayons. We made these extra crayons out of posterboard tubes in different colors. We rolled the posterboard into this tube shape and glued it in place. We also made the crayon wrappers out of colored paper, which was a lighter shade than the posterboard for each color. We decorated the wrappers with the Canineoyla logo and the squiggly lines crayons have, and colored it in with permanent markers. We then glued the paper wrapper onto the middle of the tubes, leaving posterboard showing on either end. To make the crayon tops, we made cone shapes out of the posterboard, and glued them onto the tops of the tubes. We covered the top of the cone with a circle of matching posterboard, to fill in the hole.
